What is a routing number?

A routing number (also called an ABA routing number or RTN) is a nine-digit code that identifies a U.S. financial institution. It's used to route ACH transfers, direct deposits, wire transfers, and check payments to the correct bank.

Where do I find my routing number?

Your routing number is printed in the bottom-left corner of every check, listed in your online banking app under account details, and printed on monthly statements. Many banks also use a different routing number for wire transfers — always confirm which one you need.

Is the routing number the same for everyone at the same bank?
